As of October 1, 2004, the city has an estimated population of 35,401 and a population density of 547 persons per km². The total area is 64.76 km². The modern city of Kahoku was established in 2004, from the merger of the towns of Nanatsuka, Takamatsu and Unoke (all from Kahoku District). ==Geography== Kahoku is located approximately in the center of Ishikawa Prefecture and falls 20 km north of the capital city, Kanazawa. It takes thirty minutes from Kanazawa by train. Kahoku lies between the Sea of Japan to the west, the town of Hōdatsushimizu to the north, the town of Tsubata to the east and the town of Uchinada to the south. Geographically from the East to West, Kahoku is composed of a mountainous region, a hilly region, a terrace region, a lowland region and then a coastal region.
